Adhesives

For more than 60 years, we have developed and manufactured both traditional and waterbased resins, providing solutions with the best overall value for adhesive formulators and their customers. The range of our adhesive polymers are proven performers in creating the long-lasting, high quality bonds your customers expect.

Waterbased and Solvent-based Adhesives

Neoprene polychloroprene is the all-around performer in either waterbased or solvent-based polymers to provide quick grab and high strength for efficient assembly. Whether it's fabric or foam, Neoprene delivers the adhesion required. Adhesives based on Neoprene have a long, successful history for contact adhesives, lamination, foam bonding and pressure sensitive applications.

Contact adhesives can be used for furniture, kitchen cabinets, custom display cabinets, interior and exterior panels and partitions, footwear, automotive trim, roofing membrane attachment, and a wide variety of related applications where quick, high strength permanent bonds are needed.

In contact adhesives, Neoprene offers "auto-adhesion." With auto-adhesion, the substrates are coated with adhesive, allowed to dry, then combined under light to moderate pressure. This results in an instant bond. The bond strength of the assembled components can undergo additional finishing operations without additional clamping or fixturing. The hot strength (or heat resistance) of the assembled component is good to very good, depending on the adhesive formulation. In many cases, the hot strength is sufficient to permit the post forming of thermoplastic substrates without an excessive softening or releasing of the adhesive due to the temperature of the thermoplastic component. Contact adhesives can also be formulated to provide a long bonding time before the adhesive coated substrates are combined. This enables assembly operations to pre-coat or stage the preparation of substrates prior to bonding.

Another important application is the laminating of aluminum foil to flexible substrates, typically kraft paper. In this case, the adhesive is applied at high-speed lines onto one of the substrates and immediately combined under nip rolls. These laminates are ultimately used in food packaging, heating and air conditioning facings, paper board can linings, and related applications requiring either decorative or barrier properties.

Neoprene also offers the convenience of a pressure sensitive adhesive. This application is combined with a good hot strength.

Adhesives based on Neoprene are available as either solvent-based or waterbased compositions. They can be low viscosity sprayable and roll-coatable, intermediate viscosity brushable, or have high viscosity mastic-like consistencies. Through compounding, the adhesives can be adjusted to meet the application characteristics' need for fast, efficient product assembly.

For high temperatures and/or aggressive fluid exposure, Viton® fluoroelastomer is available in two-part, curable adhesives.

High-Temperature Impact Modifier

Vamac® MR is used as a high-temperature impact modifier for polymeric systems, including acrylic adhesives, epoxy and other thermoset resins and thermoplastic systems. Vamac® MR does not contain any process aid which can impact resin system performance, especially adhesive performance.
