Two of the chemical process industry's most frequently visited online sealing materials selection guides - the Chemical Resistance Guide (CRG) and the Kalrez® Applications Guide (KAG) - have been upgraded with new test data and the latest products to help process engineers make informed decisions on elastomeric materials and O-ring design.
The CRG and KAG, provided as a free service by DuPont Performance Elastomers (DPE), are the subject of over 5,000 industry visits per month. Users click on Chemical Resistance Guide for registration and immediate access at www.dupontelastomers.com/crg. Users can request a downloadable copy of the KAG at www.dupontelastomers.com/kag/
In addition to performance ratings of 20 elastomers in a variety of chemicals, the CRG now provides:
- An ethylene acrylic elastomer (AEM) category added to the "General Chemical Resistance Guide" from the Los Angeles Rubber Group, plus data on Vamac® AEM.
- Over 150 new ratings and data entries in the Viton® fluoroelastomer section of the fluids resistance guide, including chemicals used in food contact, pharmaceutical, biofuels and chemical processing applications.
- Easy cross referencing of entries in the fuel applications section, plus dual listings for 'pure' biofuel blends and "wet" biofuel blends - with data showing which seals are not recommended for use with "wet" biofuels.
The CRG is available at www.dupontelastomers.com/crg .
The KAG helps process and maintenance engineers select the suggested perfluoroelastomer seal by rating the resistance of Kalrez® products to virtually any combination of temperature and chemical media, and gives guidance on seal design. KAG updates and additions include:
- Information on Kalrez® SpectrumTM 6380 and Kalrez® SpectrumTM 7090 products for the chemical process industry.
- Information on Kalrez® 8900 perfluoroelastomer parts - the latest DPE product for semicon process sealing.
- Force deflection information for Kalrez® 9100, Kalrez® 8002 and Kalrez® SpectrumTM 6380.
- Values for O-ring design calculations in English units are now given to four decimal places to reflect drawing dimensions more accurately.
- Users can now input a targeted initial O-ring stretch when designing a groove for a specific O-ring size.
