Engineers in the chemical process and oil and gas industries looking for a 90 durometer, low compression set sealing elastomer to help withstand rapid gas decompression and aggressive solvents at high temperature can now consider specifying Kalrez® SpectrumTM 7090 perfluoroelastomer parts.

Kalrez® SpectrumTM 7090 - the latest addition to the Kalrez® SpectrumTM family of products - is targeted for static and dynamic sealing in applications requiring high hardness, higher modulus, and extrusion resistance at continuous service temperatures as high as 325°C.

Impressive features and benefits
Kalrez® SpectrumTM 7090 offers users an impressive combination of mechanical properties, including:
  • outstanding compression set resistance and seal force retention,
  • excellent response to temperature cycling effects,
  • high resistance to rapid gas decompression,
  • outstanding thermal stability and chemical resistance,
  • lower coefficient of thermal expansion than other Kalrez® parts - minimizing need to increase free volume of seal gland when upgrading from FKM to FFKM.
Reports of industry successes
Chemical process and oil and gas industry users have already reported successful applications of Kalrez® SpectrumTM 7090 perfluoroelastomer parts, including:
  • A major compressor OEM in the chemical process industry required an O-ring material to withstand CO2, H2S, methane, toluene, xylene and various hydrocarbons in process temperatures up to 210°C.
  • Since TPE/propylene and FKMs were found to be unsuitable in this aggressive chemical and temperature environment, the company decided to specify Kalrez® SpectrumTM 7090 parts. These were installed over 6 months ago for long-term service, and are reported to be meeting all sealing requirements even in these harsh conditions.

  • A major ball valve producer in the oil and gas industry installed Kalrez® SpectrumTM 7090 Orings for service in methanol, CO2 and H2S process chemistry at around 150°C.
  • At time of publication, the Kalrez® O-rings had been in continuous operation for over 8 months without any issues and are considered to be in the early phase of their service lifetime.

Kalrez® SpectrumTM 7090 perfluoroelastomer parts are available in AS568 and metric sizes, and meet MIL Std 413C and AS 568 tolerances.
